Samsung E200 Eco - Eco friendly handset

Samsung unveiled a “green” cell phone on Thursday at its Olympic Rendezvous event in Beijing, China in conjunction with the 2008 Summer Olympic. The phone is made of Bioplastics. Unlike traditional plastics, which are derived from (non-renewable) petroleum-based products, bioplastics are derived from (renewable) biological sources, such as corn. The entry-level candybar is designed for those people who care about the ecology and are looking for a simply phone that can also be used as an MP3 player.

Samsung released the W510 and the F268 phones in Asia last June. However, the W510 and F268 phones both use traditional plastics and bioplastics in their designs. The E200 Eco is Samsung’s first phone “in which the entire case is bioplastic”. It has got ultra slim dimensions of only 108 x 45.6 x 9.9 mm combined with a variety of functions that makes it an excellent mobile phone. It has 1.3-megapixel camera and 4x digital zoom. The clicked pictures can be watched in 1.8” TFT display with 65,536 true to life colors. It also has a MP3 player enabling users to listen to music on the go. It is not sure right now whether the phone will have Bluetooth and micro-SD card but i guess it will. And let’s not forget that the whole packaging is made from recycled materials.
The E200 Eco will be available in Europe next month, while the American release date is not known at this stage. Pricing is not yet known.
